Artist's Statement:
I am inspired by everything I see and hear. My artistic style and technique is a stew of everything from getting an education in commercial art to working in my father's auto repair shops. My stew is evident in my architectural design and fabrication projects, which allow me to combine my fine art with objects I have designed and constructed for a specific project i.e. bar, bar stools, light fixtures, host stand, etc.
Traveling has also been a tremendous influence on my art as well as the artists and teachers I have studied under and worked with. I have had the pleasure to meet and get to know Ellsworth Kelly. Last year, we were looking at one of his paintings, and he told me it was inspired by a window he had seen in Paris when he was there more than fifty years ago. He said it just recently came back to him, and that moments of his past like this have always reappeared during his life.
After looking at the work, a group of us traveled with the artist to Paris to see the actual window. As we stood there, I thought about the simplicity and beauty of the object, and how something so ordinary could be the reason behind his work.; I thought about this while I was admiring the strength and delicacy of the rock formations in Arizona earlier this year, and how I would combine these magnificent images into my future work.
