Prologo Paradiso Exhibition Preview
Gerardus Jilesen
Born in 1963 in Beugen, Holland, Gerardus Jilesen studied art history and taught at the University of Art in Nijmegen, in the Netherlands. After his studies he created art for such well-known musicals as Miss Saigon, Elizabeth, and The Phantom of the Opera. In 1989 he went to Germany to finish his Masters in Art under the prestigious German artist, Markus Lupertz.
He then went on to live and work in Florence, Italy. In this period he started working on sculptures in marble from Cascara. He then went on to study glass making in Venice.
In 1996 he went to China and Australia to work on large projects, including painting the exterior of an airplane. Afterwards he studied at the Galssgallery in Ajeto, the Czech Republic. He subsequently went on to have a large solo exhibition in the Arsenal of Borek Sipek, in Prague.
Jilesen is very excited to have his first exhibition in the United States. This is implied by the title of the show, "Prologo Paradiso", which loosely translated means "the beginning of something exciting".
