A tin-type is an historical photographic process in which light sensitive photographic emulsion is poured directly onto a sheet of metal and then exposed, creating a negative which appears positive when supported by a black background. This process was developed in 1851 by Frederick Scott Archer and was used extensively during the Civil War era. Each plate is an original, one of a kind piece.
