Michael Matarese
Artist Statement
These works reference the idea of herd mentality and all the issues that arise. The notion seems especially pertinent, given the racial, socio-economic, age, an gender pigeon-holding going on throughout the news media in regards to the current presidential election. The work also has analogies to immigration and flux in general, which I find pretty interesting. Formally, the use of repetition as a signifier for time spent and labor is something that I always try to exploit in my work.
About the Artist
Michael Matarese received his BFA in 2005 from the University of Delaware. In 2007 he received the prestigious Delaware Devision of the Arts award for emerging artist.
